On July 2, 2026, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) officially opened the online admission registration system for university and college enrollment for the 2026 academic year.
Applicants are advised to carefully consider and arrange the order of their admission preferences to maximize their chances of being admitted to their desired programs.
Candidates should thoroughly review admission information, verify the correct institution code and program (major) code, and rank their preferences according to their priorities and career aspirations.
For students graduating from high school in 2026, the minimum eligibility requirement for university admission under all admission methods is a minimum total score of 15 out of 30 in the three-subject admission combination (or Mathematics, Literature, and one additional subject), excluding priority and bonus points. This requirement does not apply to candidates who are granted special consideration for high school graduation.
Unlike previous years, applicants in the 2026 admission season may register up to 15 admission preferences, replacing the previous unlimited registration policy. Teacher education institutions will only consider preferences ranked from 1 to 5, while admission to military and police institutions will follow the regulations issued by the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Public Security.
When selecting and arranging their preferences, candidates should consider not only admission scores from the past two or three years but also factors such as admission subject combinations, tuition fees, training quality, institutional reputation, and future career opportunities.
From July 15 to 5:00 PM on July 21, applicants must pay the online admission application fee based on the number of registered preferences.
The Ministry of Education and Training reminds candidates to carefully study the admission guidelines and complete every step of the registration process accurately. If any information regarding application submission or fee payment is unclear, candidates are encouraged to contact admission support staff at designated reception centers or the admissions offices of higher education institutions for assistance.
The first-round admission results and the list of successful applicants will be announced by higher education institutions before 5:00 PM on August 13.
After receiving their admission results, all successful applicants, including those admitted through direct admission, must confirm their enrollment online before 5:00 PM on August 21 if they wish to study at the admitted institution. This confirmation is a mandatory step to complete the admission process.
According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao, Director General of the Department of Higher Education under MOET, candidates who are eligible for admission to multiple preferences will only be admitted to the highest-ranked preference for which they qualify. Therefore, applicants should rank their preferences according to their genuine interests rather than lowering their preferred majors due to concerns about high admission scores. Once admitted to a higher-ranked preference, all lower-ranked preferences will automatically become invalid.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao also recommends dividing admission preferences into three groups to improve admission opportunities:
- Group 1: Dream universities and majors, even if previous admission scores are slightly higher than the applicant's expected score.
- Group 2: Programs with admission scores similar to or approximately 0.5–1 point lower than the applicant's expected score.
- Group 3: Programs with significantly lower admission scores to ensure a safe admission option.
